Why Does Kane Wear A Mask?
Kane is one of the craziest and scariest creatures to ever come into existence. What is he exactly? Not a whole lot is known about Kane, but we do know these simple facts: 1. he's the brother of the Undertaker. 2. He's a demon (one of the devil's favorites). 3. He has psychological scars from when the Undertaker burned down the family home and left Kane for dead.
Kane has had a truly insane life. Kane himself is the epitome of insanity. He loves causing people pain - just like the pain he had to suffer during his childhood. Paul Bearer raised Kane like his own son. But even though Paul Bearer loved Kane and showed him compassion, Kane still turned on him many times and he violently attacked him multiple times. In essence, Kane bit the hand that fed him. Kane can't form long lasting emotional relationships. The only relationships he can have are either sexual in nature, or ones where he's the total dominate party. Kane had two female companions in his life: Katie Vick and Lita. His time with Katie Vick ended in tragedy: Kane drove a car off the road with Katie Vick inside. Kane survived but Katie Vick did not. But that wasn't the worst of it. Kane ended up sexually defacing the dead corpse of Katie Vick. Kane truly is a sick man. Kane's relationship with Lita did not go well either. He coerced Lita into having sex with him so he would no longer harm Matt Hardy. He ended up getting her pregnant. It looked like she was going to give birth to a little demon baby. However, she ended up miscarrying when Gene Snitsky fell on her accidentally after Kane hit him in the back with a steel chair. I don't like Gene Snitsky but that incident truly wasn't his fault. Kane and Lita's relationship survived for a few more months, but she ended up cheating on him with Edge. This made Kane furious and he went on a rampage against Edge and Lita.
Do you see how sick and violent Kane is? He truly is NOT human. As I said before, he's a demon straight from hell. But why does he insist on wearing a mask? For years we were led to believe he wore the mask to hide his literal physical scars from when his brother The Undertaker burned down the family home. But in 2003, many years after Kane made his WWE debut, we learned that Kane wasn't physically deformed at all (although he definitely is no looker). He said he wore the mask to hide his psychological pain. There is actually some truth to this: Kane is psychologically embarrassed at who he is. He wants to be normal, but he knows his demonic nature will never allow him to. He tries to mask the humanity inside of him, and just portray himself as a thing with no emotion or empathy. Kane loves hurting people, and he wears the mask to put fear into the people he's causing pain. They know there is no humanity in the thing causing them pain. Kane himself would actually like to be normal - as seen by his relationships with Katie Vick and Lita - but he knows that's ultimately impossible. That's why he wears the mask - to hide anything resembling true humanity.
