Ric Flair Was One Of The Greatest Wrestlers of All Time... But He Was A Terrible Role Model

The "Nature Boy" Ric Flair will always be remembered as one of the best wrestlers who ever stepped foot in the squared-circle. His stamina, technical ability, drive and passion was second to nobody during his prime years. He was a sixteen time World Champion, and he made the most out of his wrestling career. Wrestling was Ric Flair's life. Wrestling was Ric Flair's mistress. Wrestling was Ric Flair's existence.

Ric Flair had a wrestling career that spanned over 30 years. He had great matches and feuds with many other greats of all time. His rivalry with Dusty Rhodes was one of the greatest of all time. His feuds with Ricky Steamboat, Macho Man Randy Savage, Hulk Hogan, and Sting were all very memorable. Even though Ric Flair never had a very muscular body, his stamina was second to none. This is how he was able to outlast his opponents and eventually take advantage of their mistakes after they were fatigued. He also wasn't above cheating to win his matches. He would use dirty tactics to win his matches. While I don't condone cheating, I do have to respect him for being honest about doing whatever it takes to win. Ric Flair's prime was known for some of the greatest matches of all time.

But Ric Flair wasn't just known as an individually great wrestler. He was the leader of arguably the great faction of all time - The Four Horsemen! In their time The Four Horsemen were an unstoppable force. Ric Flair was the brains of the operation, and everybody respected his leadership skills.

Ric Flair is perhaps the most colorful wrestling personality of all time. His speeches and promos were very adult oriented and risque. While I do enjoy his promos, I must say they aren't good for children to listen to. Ric Flair was never a good role model for kids. Ric Flair constantly drank alcohol, and would always bring up sexual innuendo (and his own sexual exploits) during his speeches. And as I stated earlier, Ric Flair cheated to win  a lot of his matches. Cheating is not a good message for kids. While all of this made Ric Flair a very entertaining figure, it also meant he could never be a hero to the youth. Hulk Hogan was a good role model for kids. He always promoted eating your vitamins, saying your prayers, and good sportsmanship. Hogan also gave people the hope that they could always accomplish their dreams. In modern wrestling John Cena is an even better role model than Hulk Hogan was. Ric Flair isn't this.

Ric Flair has done so much in his career. He won a multitude of championships. He had so many great matches and rivalries. He was the leader of one of the greatest factions of all time. He mentored Triple H, Randy Orton and Batista as the elder statesman of Evolution. He's been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame twice - as an individual and as a member of The Four Horsemen. And he had one of the most memorable retirement matches of all time - Wrestlemania 24 vs Shawn Michaels. Ric Flair is a true wrestling treasure... but he was never a good role model.
